St Leonards and Crows Nest 2036 Draft Plan
Subject: St Leonards and Crows Nest 2036 Draft Plan
Record No: SU6005 - 64194/18
Division: Lane Cove Council
Author(s): Councillor Pam Palmer
Executive Summary
The St Leonards and Crows Nest 2036 Draft Plan (previously known as the LUIIP) was released today which outlines development and infrastructure in the Crows Nest/St Leonards area to 2036. It covers the Local Government Areas of Lane Cove, North Sydney and Willoughby https://www.planning.nsw.gov.au/Plans-for-your-area/Priority-Growth-Areas-and-Precincts/St-Leonards-and-Crows-Nest/Key-actions-and-documents
Council resolved in July this year to request an extension to the exhibition period of the Draft Plan to allow for at least 12 weeks of community consultation so that Council can incorporate community feedback into its submission on the Draft Plan. Council wrote to the Department but has not received a response. The Draft Plan is currently on exhibition for six (6) weeks not 12 weeks as per the resolution above.
I would just like to re-affirm Councils existing request for the extension of time as this would be beneficial for the community and Councillors to get a greater understanding of the Government’s plans for the whole area, particularly in relation to land use and the provision of infrastructure, prior to finalising the draft St Leonards South planning proposal. Community information sessions will need to be conducted as part of the consultation process.
Council staff and I have a briefing tomorrow with the Department of Planning & Environment on the draft 2036 plan. In August, Council resolved to write to Willoughby Council and North Sydney Council seeking to create a working group of Council staff and Councillors to collaborate on strategic planning for the St Leonards/Crows Nest area. Council Staff are meeting later this week with staff from neighbouring Councils on scheduling workshops on this issue.
Council will incorporate community feedback on the St Leonards and Crows Nest 2036
into Council’s submission to make sure the St Leonards/Crows Nest liveability remains the highest priority. In addition residents are encouraged to make their own submission on all aspects of the latest plans for the St Leonards/Crows Nest area.
