Minutes

 

PRESENT: Councillor D. Hutchens (Chair), Councillor S. Bennison, Councillor K. Brent, Councillor D. Brooks-Horn , Councillor K. Morris, Councillor P. Palmer, Councillor D. Strassberg, Councillor F. Vissel and Councillor A. Zbik.

 

ALSO PRESENT: General Manager, Executive Manager – Corporate Services, Executive Manager – Environmental Services, Acting Executive Manager – Open Space & Urban Services, Executive Manager – Human Services, and Director – Major Projects.

 

OATH OR AFFIRMATION OF OFFICE BY COUNCILLORS

 

Under Section 233A of  the Local Government Act 1993, Councillors are now required to take an oath or affirmation of office, at or before the first meeting of the Council after being elected. Therefore, the first item of business for the new Council and this meeting was the taking of an oath of office individually by all Councillors.

 

DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST: Nil

 

APOLOGIES: Nil

 

OPENING OF MEETING WITH PRAYER

The meeting was opened with a prayer by the General Manager

 

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

The Mayor gave an acknowledgement of Country.

 

WEBCASTING OF COUNCIL MEETING

The Mayor advised those present that the Meeting was being webcast.

 

ELECTION OF MAYOR AND DEPUTY MAYOR

RESOLVED on the motion of Councillors Bennison and Brooks-Horn that: -

1.    Council receive and note the information;

2.    The term for the Election of the Deputy Mayor be twelve (12) months;

3.    The Returning Officer conduct the Election for Mayor for the next two (2) years and Deputy Mayor for twelve (12) months; and

4.    The Election for the Office of Mayor and Deputy Mayor be by open voting.

 

 

For the Motion were Councillors Morris, Hutchens, Zbik, Palmer, Bennison, Brent, Brooks-Horn, Strassberg and Vissel (Total 9).

Against the Motion was Nil (Total 0).

 

 

ELECTION OF MAYOR FOR 2017-2019

Council’s General Manager in the capacity of Returning Officer, advised that one (1) nomination has been received for the Office of Mayor for the next two (2) years, being Councillor Palmer.

As there were no other nominations received, the General Manager declared Councillor Palmer elected as Mayor for the next two (2) years.

 

 

 

 

 

ELECTION OF DEPUTY MAYOR FOR 2017-2018

Council’s General Manager in the capacity of Returning Officer, advised that one (1) nomination has been received for the Office of Deputy Mayor for the ensuing twelve (12) months term being Councillor Brent.

As there were no other nominations received, the General Manager declared Councillor Brent elected as Deputy Mayor for the next twelve (12) months.
